Sarkha - In Their Hearts
cat# DU-WSPRHRT2

With a set of field recordings, sharp noises, mournful pads, arrhythmic beats that coexist with rhythmic patterns, and tracks titled with cardiovascular diseases, "In Their Hearts" is a conceptual journey facing the limits of violence, human cruelty and the sepsis that lives in their hearts.

The first track of the EP "In Their Hearts" carries the same name. The beginning opens with layered recordings and distorted samples that are abruptly cut by violent base shots and dry kicks. These discontinuous sound patterns are followed by conventional techno rhythms. The ambience of the track remains sombre throughout.

“Angina” stirs the type of sound that we can most find in Sarkha's productions and sets. Vocal pads accompanied by furious kick drums and shrill percussions that contrasts with its ambiental breakdowns, where atmospheres and pads take centre stage.

An irregular heartbeat in the middle of a hostile soundscape initiates “Arrhythmia”. This is continued by the distorted recitation of a poem that recedes as the tempo of the percussion progresses "in crescendo." Again noises cut through the field recordings on which a set of samples are superimposed to form a grotesque scene. The pace reverts to a typical 4x4 bar pattern only to accelerate forcibly as the track develops to create a tragic ending.

Sarkha is a producer, DJ & visual artist from Valencia (ES), based in Berlin with a soft spot for disturbing sounds, bleak atmospheres and ominous narratives. In the previous years to her step into the electronic music scene, she approached audio creation in the media post production industry. A precedent that leaves dramaturgy stains on her productions and sets.

She has made a little impression by delivering dance floor-oriented music, yet she also stepped into the world of experimental music with an unwavering keenness for sonic exploration. Her soundtrack “Last Days of Gaia”, released on Pollen.Sounds, unlocked a divergent path.

2019 saw her emergence with one off appearances so far at Berlin clubs like Suicide Club, Mensch Meier, Birgit&Bier, Burg Schnabel and several events organised by the international network female:pressure. She completed a brief tour in Japan in 2023, marking her first intercontinental debut. As producer, she released on labels such as Blockchain Records, Not Dolls, The Techno’s Children or Pollen. Sounds. Last but not least, she joined Dixrupt agency & collective as a resident.
